What's the Challenge?
Increase access to artifacts, events, and exhibits, and showcase the collections and records located in Emporia
State University's Special Collections and Archives.
What's the Solution?
Create virtual reality (VR)
experiences of artifacts, events, and exhibits related to ESU's Special Collections and Archives.
Why Will This Work?
There's a precedent!
In Spring 2018, SLIM practicum student Brady Lund (MLS, 2018) created a VR experience of May Massee's office, which is part of the May Massee Memorial Collection at
Emporia State University.
Since the experience has been
available via an app, more than
twice as many virtual visitors have entered the office versus physical visitors. The virtual visitors also spend more time in the space than those visiting the office in person.
Is This Applicable to Other Archives?
Yes!
This website will demonstrate
how any institution can create VR experiences using simple-to-use,
low-cost equipment.
